Having purchased a Triumph TR6 and looking to enjoy the company of other car enthusiasts, Glyn Morris visited an established car club with the intention of joining. At this meeting, a member stated “he did not like people simply joining the club for cheap registration” which discouraged Glyn from joining.

Coming back home, Glyn conceived the possibility of starting a new car club in Strathalbyn. On the 16th February 2012, with 9 people in attendance, Glyn was appointed Public Officer and authorised to lodge an application to become incorporated. The name of the Club was “The Strathalbyn Auto Collectors Club Inc.” The club constitution was typed up, being a modified version borrowed from another club. The application was lodged and the club was incorporated on the 23 March 2012.

A public meeting was called by placing an ad in the local paper “The Argus” to be held on the 26th July 2012 for any interested people to attend. There were 24 people at this meeting, with the first committee appointed as:

After an application to gain accreditation with Transport SA was denied, the club applied for Historic Registration 6 months later which was successful. The Federation of Historic Motoring Clubs SA Inc also knocked back our application to join the Federation, citing that similar clubs existed nearby at Mt Barker and Murray Bridge.

After inviting Arthur Doecke from the Federation to attend a car club meeting, he ultimately recommended the SACC would be welcome as a new member of the Federation. Since its inception in 2012, the Strathalbyn Auto Collectors Club Inc. has continued to grow. This development picked up more recently, with subsequent changes to the Conditional Registration Scheme (i.e. 25 years; ICVs; etc). The Club has progressed to having over 320 financial members and over 400 cars on Conditional Registration in South Australia.
