Maccy Bangers & Mash Run - Jun 21

REPORT – RUN TO MACCLESFIELD – 17TH JUNE 2021

Before the rains came! Maybe the way it was on the day. A total of 16 members made the decision to attend and enjoy the friendship along the way. I actually changed the route and not return to The General Store seeing that we had been there the previous Sunday and instead decided a run via Wistow Bakery would be a bit different, it has been some time since we called in there. We unfortunately passed where a man had died that morning on South Terrace as we headed to Wistow via Woodchester. This is a very nice drive at this time of year I thought, gone is the barren soil so prevalent at the end of summer and now the paddocks were all starting to turn the fresh green of newly sown crops plus recent rains washed away the dust and all the trees leaves were nice and shiny.

There was no really attempt to hurry, sitting down in the Wistow Bakery, catching up or introducing new members to each other, but in the group were several who have been frequent visitors to the Macclesfield Hotel and indeed were particularly happy to report on what was on the menu, several mentioned the Bangers and Mash plus the schnitzels were pretty good as well. So an exodus occurred and we continued on our way from there heading in a big sweep to Littlehampton , down Junction Road to Balhannah and then swung around to Verdun under the freeway up Germantown Hill to Aldgate then left and take the winding Strathalbyn Road through Mylor to Echunga and into Macclesfield just on 12.15 pm for our 12.30 booked time to arrive.

I can report that the first short shower of rain did not happen until just after leaving Echunga but once inside the Maccy Hotel we did hear the heavy showers on the iron roof of the side area we were given. Our group were seated at a long table and we all enjoyed our meals which came out hot and beautifully cooked. A number of the group were heading to Mt Barker and some headed home to Strathalbyn and on the way was when the heavens opened and the threatening showers arrived so we were very lucky with the weather on the day.

On the run were: Bob & Elaine Sellar; John & Yvonne Dawson; Chris & Jeyne Morden; John & Jenny Howard; Steve Roberts; Roy Shelton &Carmel Chell; Ian & Marylyn Bell; Adrian & Sharon Sako and myself.
